Principle of SMPS
The following SMPS designs assumes that the components are ideal – transistor and diode voltage drops are zero, inductor and capacitor are ideal (no parasitics). There are no losses in the circuitry – power supplied by the source equals the power delivered to the load.

It can increase or decrease the output voltage to maintain a constant output regardless of changes in load.
